Arteta Praises ‘More Reliable’ Team and Acknowledges Kai Havertz Setback.

Arsenal's manager has expressed confidence that his team can keep managing with fitness issues following confirming that forward Kai Havertz is not ready for a few more weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for German Star

The German forward has been absent since the summer following an operation on his knee. Hoped to return earlier in December, Arteta explained the player hit a snag when stepping up his training and was unable to move forward “to the next level.”

“We took lessons, and managed to assemble a squad that is much more reliable and has greater depth,” stated the manager.

This news presents a tactical puzzle for Wednesday’s home game against Brentford. Arteta must choose between sticking with Mikel Merino, who got a goal playing out of position last weekend, or reinstating Viktor Gyökeres, who came back off the bench in the latter stages. “History has shown us that we have to use players in alternative spots, and they have to be able to adapt to new tasks if we are to fight at the top. And the case of Mikel is probably the prime illustration.”

Speaking about the complication noted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, the manager gave further detail. “He followed all protocols. He failed to advance to the subsequent stage and now it appears like we have solved that issue.”

The manager conveyed his personal desire to welcome him back. “Everyone is eager to have him. Truly, it’s a player that, personally, I admire greatly for his contributions to the team, but his character, his attitude. I watch him struggle while sidelined.”
