The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Horror That Blends Survival Horror with Social Deduction Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase revealed several fascinating upcoming titles, but one especially has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience appears to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive game where a girl harboring multiple personalities inside her must escape from a labyrinth of the psyche," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of teenage years. Within her exist four distinct personas, all possessing their own fears and drives. These souls can take over at will, releasing their innermost phobias upon her suddenly.

Judging by revealed gameplay, much of the action unfolds within a eerie medical facility, while additional clips depict the protagonist exploring a desolate church.

A World of Personal Dread

"What makes you afraid of? What makes you uneasy?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. People in power. Things that seem trivial to other people can activate a deep instinct inside us. This game delves into that concept — fears that are unique to every individual."

The core gameplay loop involves controlling the persona that surfaces at any given moment. However, these identities will change against your will as you play. While exploring, each soul's anxieties become exaggerated and assault the girl one after another. As the persona changes, so does the particular terror the player encounters.

Unsettling Aesthetics and a Fatal Decision

At first glance, UN:Me shares noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is populated by orderlies who all share the same face, with unnervingly wide smiles. Patients in the lobby have enormous blooms growing from their heads are. Flowers are a recurring theme, contrasting natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular mechanic. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four entities inhabiting the heroine is the "real" one. "Each of the souls asserts that the body is rightfully them," explains a creator. "During the game, you must determine who is real."

Once players believes a persona is an impostor, they must eliminate it. However, since each soul can deceive or obfuscate the truth, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the real [soul] by your own actions," the narration states. "The last one remaining might be a fake. Either way, your decisions are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced release date, but it is available to wishlist on platforms.
